Heute beginnt beginnt nicht nur die Zeit der Biden-Administration, es endet auch die Ära Trump. Vieles ist in den letzten vier Jahren angegriffen oder in Frage gestellt worden: Die Bündnistreue und Vertragstreue der USA, die Toleranz und Offenheit, das Selbstverständnis der Nation und die Demokratie. Aber für mich ist klar: Deutschland und Europa brauchen die USA. Wir sind durch eine schwierige Zeit gemeinsam gegangen und auch unter Biden wird nicht immer alles so laufen, wie wir uns das gedacht haben. Aber nur zusammen können wir Freiheit, Wohlstand und Frieden in der Welt sichern.
Today not only marks the beginning of the Biden administration, but also the end of the Trump era. Much has been attacked over the past four years: The U.S.’s loyalty to alliances and treaties, tolerance and openness, the nation’s self-confidence and democracy. Sure thing: Germany and Europe need the US. We have gone through a difficult time together, and even under Biden not everything will always go the way we thought it would. But only together can we secure freedom, prosperity and peace in the world.
